Jephson Housing Association Group, a leading provider of quality homes and services, which recently merged with the Raglan Housing Association to form Stonewater, one of the UK’s most significant social housing providers.
With 30,000 homes under management and £1.6 billion in assets and a significant development programme to help address the rising demand for housing, the organisation relies heavily on its IT infrastructure.
To ensure maximum power security, Jephson Housing wanted to centralise its uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
The solution and results
Working with one of its premier partners, independent reseller BAC-UPS, Power Control submitted a detailed recommendation report, which included an analysis of existing UPS equipment and supporting CAD drawings to illustrate the proposals put forward.
Impressed by Power Control’s total business solution, Jephson Housing purchased three transformer free Borri B8000FXS 20kVA UPS systems with IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) input and output technology, which are now being used to support the company’s central IT room, providing critical power supply backup to the businesses IT systems.
The new Borri B8000FXS UPS units were installed within very tight time constraints and within budget by Power Control’s specialist engineers, who were also supported by Jephson Housing’s in-house electricians. Having originally had multiple rack mount UPS units, this new power backup solution is far more resilient, provides greater autonomy and a much smaller carbon foot print.
For added peace of mind, the high efficiency Borri B8000FXS UPS systems also come with Power Control’s five-year gold maintenance contract, sophisticated N+2 capabilities and full SNMP software monitoring and shutdown, ensuring superior performance reliability.
Why use the Borri B8000FXS?
The Borri B8000FXS UPS series has been designed with in-built tricore technology, which enables it to achieve efficiency levels of up to eight percent greater than a conventional UPS, providing substantial power savings.
Controlled by DSP technology (Digital Signal Processor), which when combined with Isolated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBT) enables the Borri B8000FXS UPS range to have a minimal effect on the mains supply, providing less than three percent harmonic distortion, allowing a generator to be downsized by as much as 50 percent.
Other than for efficiency, the Borri B8000FXS is ideal for loads of 10-20kva which would require fitting into a slim server rack or data centre. The UPS is so user friendly because the units are scalable, and therefore can continue to meet changing requirements. Other benefits of this model include:
- Temperature compensated battery charging for preserving battery life span
- High level diagnostics via LCD screen for ease of use
- Dual DSP controller to increase efficiency yet reduce size
- Enhanced generator compatibility for changing needs.
