Briar Chemicals has turned to its long term power solutions partner, Power Control Ltd, to carry out a rapid complete battery replacement of 60, 70AH batteries at its state-of-the-art facility in Norwich.

The 114 acre site provides world class contract manufacturing services to global leaders in the agrochemical, fine and speciality chemical sectors.

The solution and results

Briar Chemicals has turned to its long term power solutions partner, Power Control Ltd, to carry out a rapid complete battery replacement of 60, 70AH batteries at its state-of-the-art facility in Norwich.

The entire replacement project was completed within three days. The works included the removal and safe disposal of the old batteries, full construction, erection and installation of an open battery stand and new DC isolation.

As UPS batteries are essentially the most critical part of a UPS it is essential for these to be in optimum operating condition and in the event of a failure must be replaced as quickly as possible. Commenting, Power Control’s divisional manager, Graeme Tucker said: “With so many factors impacting the performance of batteries – temperature, humidity, natural degrading, it is essential for UPS batteries to be maintained and checked to ensure they are in good condition. If batteries are left, autonomy times will be affected and UPS performance impacted.”

Briar Chemicals IT manager, Nick Burr commented: “This latest project with Power Control has really reinforced the importance of having regular battery maintenance with us (Briar Chemicals). The speedy response from Power Control has meant that we were able to be up and running again in a matter of days.”
